5.Digital Technology Penetration Rates



When comparing digital technologies a few hit the top of the list. Looking at the list Smart phones, TV’s and Radios are a few items that hit the top.

Smart phones didn't have the highest penetration rate in 2013; however it is the most rapidly expanding market of digital technology. Smart phones are rapidly becoming more prevalent in Australia. 

A study in 2013 found that TV’s sit at the top of the list with the highest penetration rate at 98% of households having one.




A 2014 report showed that on the world stage Australia sits second with 37% of Australian’s owning a smartphone. In 2013 Europe had the highest penetration (75 percent), followed by the Americas (61 percent) whilst Asia had 32 percent of its population. Africa appeared to be the lowest at 16 percent.

However in the 2014 report Singapore was found to have the highest level in the world of any population owning a smartphone. 62% of their population own a smartphone or smart device.

In just the span of 12 short months the world has changed rapidly and the penetration rate of smart phones globally has rapidly changed.
